Simon Dean awarded prestigious county honour
We are delighted that Challenger Troop CIC’s founder and CEO, Major Simon Dean OBE, has been presented with the Lord-Lieutenant’s Certificate for Meritorious Service in recognition of his outstanding loyalty and commitment to the Army Cadet Force.
Dignitaries from across the County joined Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Kent, The Viscount de L’Isle MBE for the uplifting ceremony held on Tuesday 27th September at Canterbury Cathedral Lodge, the hotel and conference centre set in the grounds of Canterbury Cathedral. The inspirational location of the UNESCO World Heritage Site provided a prestigious venue for the evening which was also attended by distinguished guests including the High Sheriff of Kent, Mayor of Canterbury and the MP for Canterbury as well as family, friends and colleagues of those receiving awards. Congratulating all the award winners, The Lord-Lieutenant said, “It is my pleasure on behalf of Her Majesty and the County of Kent to congratulate all those who have received an award this evening”.
In his spare time, Simon volunteers as a County Staff Officer with Kent Army Cadet Force. A former cadet himself who flourished under the wing of an inspirational instructor within his detachment, he joined Kent ACF as a Cadet Force Adult Volunteer thirty-four years ago in 1982 and has made the youth of Kent his life’s work. He is passionate about the ACF and has been responsible for organising a very successful outreach programme with the County ACF.
On receiving the award, he said “My time and experience in the ACF has shaped the person I am today and has inspired me to form Challenger Troop. The ACF family and experiences I have had the privilege to benefit from have very much influenced my success in life. It’s a great honour to be nominated and the crowning of 42 years of service to an organisation I am passionate about”.
