Lord Lieutenant enjoys a day with our North West Team
We were delighted to welcome Mr David Briggs, M.B.E, K.St.J. The Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire, out on location with us at Arley Hall, Northwich on 9th October.
He met some of our student participants from Ysgol Heulfan and Palacefields Primary Schools and watched them being taught basic firelighting skills, using tarpaulins to build bashas, and learning how to construct shelters from the natural resources all around them.
In discussions with Simon Dean and NW Teams Manager Mark Hall, the Lord-Lieutenant learned about the work we, in partnership with schools throughout Cheshire and the North West, are doing with young people who are requiring additional support to help them achieve their potential at school. He saw how our programmes and activities are not only great fun for those participating, but, more importantly, aid in the development of personal and learning skills which help them to become more confident individuals, effective contributors in class and successful learners as a result.
Mr Briggs said “I very much enjoyed my day with Challenger Troop. The kids were obviously having a great time whilst learning so much. Despite the fact that I was told that these were children who had challenging behaviour at school, I was impressed with their behaviour during the day. In the unfamiliar environment of a wood, they were enjoying the experience and they were prepared to listen and to learn.”
