Challenger Troop presents cheque to BLESMA
Instructors from Challenger Troop’s West Kent team presented a cheque to BLESMA (the British Limbless Ex-Service Men’s Association) from funds raised by youngsters from Hayesbrook Secondary school in Tonbridge, Kent on Wednesday 9th October. During the summer, three youngsters took part in a sponsored walk and trekked over 5km of rugged landscape over the Ashdown Forest and raised £37.50.
They chose BLESMA as their preferred charity. Our West Kent Team Instructors caught up with BLESMA on the Kent leg of the SRUK 2013 cycling tour (formerly known as Soldier Ride) as it came through Penshurst in Kent. They presented the cheque as over 30 wounded military personnel from the UK and the United States arrived at the end of a day’s cycle which was part of a six-day 250-mile tour around the idyllic South East, starting out from Windsor Castle on October 6th, culminating in a victory lap around central London on the last day.
Rosie Newman-Bekkelund of Challenger Troop (pictured) said “We are delighted to be able to present the cheque on behalf of our youngsters and be part of this day. The atmosphere here is incredible and the achievements of everyone here is quite humbling”.
BLESMA is the national charity for all limbless serving and ex-service men and women, their widows and dependants. It helps wounded servicemen and women rebuild their lives by providing rehabilitation activities and welfare support. For more information on BLESMA click here www.blesma.org
